Volunteers says "goodbye" to guide dogs so that blind people can say "hello" to a new partner.

People often ask our volunteers, "How can you bear to give up the dog at the end of training?" For Carla and Clayton, they explain it this way: "There are lots of tears in the lead-up to saying goodbye, but when I have my one week countdown, I remind myself of the blind person's one week countdown - they must be so excited about getting a guide dog."

What's summer without a barbecue? Casey's volunteer Puppy Raisers Doug & Cathy organized a wonderful barbecue fundraiser that raised $3400 for BC Guide Dogs. Special thanks goes out to Haifa Noujaime for cooking the donairs and of course to Doug and Cathy and the sponsors below:

We are so proud of guide dog graduate Amber Thomas, who competed in 6 swimming events during the 2012 Paralympic Games! She came home with a bronze and silver medals - great job Amber!
We regularly bring our dogs into classrooms to teach students about guide dogs and how they help people. Often the children organize small fundraisers like bake sales to support our work, for which we are very grateful!

Seventh grader Kelsey chose BC Guide Dogs as the topic for a bilingual speech project and later organized a school-wide bake sale.

Grade 6 students Nathan Rerup, Brayden Maskell and Lucas Fair inspired schoolmates to fundraise for our organization. Read the Delta Optimist article about their philanthropic efforts.

We are proud to introduce you to our puppies, born March 4, 2012 to mom Calypso and dad Laddie. There are 5 puppies - 3 females, and 2 males. Here's a quick peek at them as they feed.
In February, Chocolate Labrador Purdy met up with his volunteer Puppy Raisers for the first time since "going off to college" for advanced guide dog training. In this CTV Vancouver Island news clip, Purdy is demonstrating his new skills by leading the Puppy Raisers on a blindfolded walk.
